Garman Guide is run by Wexford Foundry as a County Wexford events, places, local tips and newsletter service. Contact: garmanguide@wexfordfoundry.org.

What we collect

When you subscribe, we collect your email address and any optional details you choose to give, such as name, town, interests and newsletter category preferences. We also store verification and unsubscribe tokens, subscriber status and basic timestamps so the newsletter can work safely.

If you suggest an event, we store the event information you provide and any optional submitter details so a human editor can review it.

For insights, we count privacy-first aggregate interactions with the guide. These can include page/view opens, menu choices, use of category, town and weekday filters, calendar dates opened, map venue/town interactions, whether search was used, subscription milestones, event-suggestion milestones, and clicks on public event, camp or place links. We do not record the words you type into search.

Garman's analytics records are designed not to identify a visitor. They do not include your email address, name, subscriber ID, unsubscribe or preference token, full IP address, user-agent string, device fingerprint, referrer URL, analytics cookie or persistent analytics identifier.

What we do not do

We do not use advertising pixels, retargeting pixels, analytics cookies, local-storage analytics identifiers, email open tracking pixels, raw search-term logging, or individual browsing/click profiles. We do not sell subscriber data.

Why we use the data

We use subscriber data to send and manage the Wednesday newsletter, confirm subscriptions, honour unsubscribes, tailor the guide to your selected preferences, and keep delivery records. We use event suggestions to review and curate public listings. We use aggregate interaction totals to understand which parts of the guide are useful — for example Week, Month, Map, filters and event links — so we can improve the service without building visitor profiles.

Legal basis

For the newsletter, we rely on your consent: you subscribe, confirm by email, and can unsubscribe at any time. Where personal data is processed for necessary service operation, security or limited technical logs, we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and protecting the service, balanced against users' rights. Garman's own interaction analytics are deliberately minimised and designed not to contain visitor identifiers.

Links, clicks and cookies

Garman Guide does not set analytics cookies or create a persistent analytics identifier. The site can send a small first-party, no-cookie interaction count when you open a guide view, use a menu or filter, open a calendar/map item, or click a public link. Search-use counts never include the search words. These records are used as aggregate product statistics rather than to follow an individual visitor.

Public event and booking buttons keep their real destination visible in the browser. When you click one of these links, Garman may send a small no-cookie click count before the destination opens. This count is aggregate and does not identify you.

Some newsletter event links may pass through Garman Guide first so we can count anonymous aggregate clicks before redirecting to the event website. These links do not include your email address or subscriber ID. Newsletter emails do not contain open-rate pixels.

Who helps us operate the service

Our hosting and email providers process data needed to host the site and send email. Normal hosting/server logs may temporarily process technical information such as IP addresses for security, debugging and operation, even though Garman's own analytics log does not store full IP addresses. The public map uses Leaflet/OpenStreetMap and external map/ticket/venue links may be served by third-party websites when you choose to open them.

How long we keep data

Subscriber data is kept while you are subscribed. If you unsubscribe, we keep the minimum record needed to honour that unsubscribe and avoid contacting you by mistake. Pending or failed subscription records may be reviewed and removed periodically.

Raw aggregate click and interaction logs are kept for up to 13 months, then deleted or reduced to anonymous totals. Garman automatically removes analytics month files outside that rolling calendar window. Event suggestions and admin logs are kept only as long as reasonably needed for editorial review, security and operation.

Your choices and rights

You can unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the unsubscribe link in any Garman email. You can also ask us to access, correct or delete your personal data, withdraw consent, object to processing, or ask questions by emailing garmanguide@wexfordfoundry.org.

You also have the right to complain to the Irish Data Protection Commission.

Children and families

Garman Guide may list family events and summer camps, but newsletter signup is intended for adults and guardians, not children.
